Mother Hostia's Haven, is a much needed initiative of the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary (SCJM), who are based in Johannesburg, South Africa.  The Sisters identified the need for assisting the homeless elderly sick and this translated into action that would offer the following services:

(a) a safe, warm, loving environment and place for the homeless elderly sick, to    recuperate from any surgery or other minor operations, once they are discharged from hospital.

(b) assistance in getting to their medical check ups on a regular basis, while ensuring that they always have all the necessary medication needed and through our professional nurses on duty, they will be monitored and assessed when needed.

(c) to offer those in distress, counselling services, and pastoral care in fulfilling the mandate of the Church in not loving each other, loving communities, but also through Christ's love, to reach out to the most vulnerable members of society - the homeless and poor and support them and care for them.

(d) to empower them with basic training skills in sewing, woodcraft, and beading to be able to sustain themselves, once they have recuperated. this helps them also become socially responsible members of society and makes them proud of their contribution they make to the economy.

(e) where possible, to re-unite them with their families by working with the trace and track program in conjunction with the South African Department of

Home Affairs

(f) to assist the Catholic Archdiocese of Johannesburg's Pastoral Care Department, with their programme of counselling, empowering and uplifting documented refugees and migrants, and to work in conjunction with the lawyers for human rights, the Jesuit Refugee Services and other human rights organziations, to promote social cohesion and unity amongst our brothers and sisters.
